Made using a Yamaha DX Reface FM Synthesizer, Arturia KeyStep, and FL Studio 20 w/ Flex

With no context, the depiction of the park with post-smoldered ash seems to be one of doom and misfortune, but as a Floridian ecosystem can only thrive alongside civilization with certain procedural necessity, this is a completely natural event. Controlled burns help sustain various features of the 12,000+ acre habitat, especially in the preservation of cypress domes which allow for freshwater wetlands to persist. When living in Tallahassee, I witnessed what happens to cypress lakes when such burns aren't conducted; they dry up! It took about four years for the dried Tallahassean lakebed I walked around in to have flooding waters once again.

I had a series of very special parties at this wilderness park, in 2008 and 2009 where I conducted a trilogy known affectionately to local friends as the Vito Bash fests. The first one occurred in June 2008 as a way of celebrating making it to the halfway point of high school (the summer between sophomore and junior year). The party was notoriously great in its first half, and then overwhelmingly bad in its latter. This album is meant to be an ominous look at the successful portion of the party in reflective allusion to the fear I'd deal with on part two.

The reason my party fell into shambles has to do with the fact that I was brought deep into the woods by friends, then left to fend for myself as my stamina waned. They left me down a very long timber-flanked equestrian trail and I had to navigate my way back out for hours. I distinctly felt stalked, my heart pounding into my ears and heat stroke threatening to cut me down with each step. I eventually made it out of those woods, got home, slept off my betrayal-fed rage, and decided to that night listen to a brand new album.

That album is the leading influence to this release, its very title "Play for Tomorrow" being a reference to the song "Play for Today". This album is a dedication to my time spent in life regarding the album Seventeen Seconds by The Cure, a CD I heard on the night of getting lost in Starkey Park as a 16 year old. I lived to tell the tale and have these intense feeling towards such music, but woven into the mix come by adoration of early '10s wonky and balearic house a la Slugabed and John Talabot. I have attempted to take the many feelings that spawned throughout 2008-2012 from that lost park stroll thru to discovering how much I love house music by earliest adulthood.

This album introduces the Yamaha DX series to my sound, my very first FM synthesizer experience.
